This symposium is designed for scientists performing in vivo research with pathology endpoints, comparative medicine veterinarians and comparative pathologists at all stages of their career who are working and training in the RTP area. Topics will progress from basic information on tissue handling and consequences of mishandling to techniques to optimize reproducibility and consistency of pathology assessments, considerations on selecting animal models, approaches for selecting optimal molecular technologies for data collection, and reviewing methodologies for qualitative and quantitative pathology using digital imaging and computational software. The program will culminate with examples of high-quality rodent pathology data from RTP institutions which have contributed to our understanding of diseases and therapeutic interventions.

The focus areas of the previous eight symposia were:

  • Current Topics in Rodent Pathology (2017)

  • Endocrine Pathology (2014)

  • Urinary Pathology (2012)

  • Hepatobiliary Pathology (2010)

  • Immunopathology (2008)

  • Cardiopulmonary Pathology (2006)

  • Neuropathology (2004)

  • Reproductive Pathology (2002)

Each symposium has drawn approximately 100-150 attendees.

This program has been approved for 11 hours of continuing education credit in jurisdictions which recognize RACE approval by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards RACE committee.
